Job Description Summary

We are seeking a detail oriented, self-starter with strong communication skills to administer, direct and manage environmental permit compliance relative to the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt, aggregates, and construction; manage land use issues, take the lead on corporate environmental initiatives, and conduct training. The successful candidate must be capable of establishing and fostering relationships with P J Keatings personnel at all levels, the regulatory community and applicable regulatory boards. Essential duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for coordinating business functions with the appropriate regulatory agencies to insure that all required permitting is in place, and that permit limitations are compatible with business needs
  • Assist area managers and site supervisors responsible for environmental compliance through education, training, implementation of corporate compliance and company initiatives; identifying issues, performing audits, and developing continuous improvement programs
  • Participate in the resolutions to environmental issues, including testing, monitoring, pollution prevention, training, inspections, auditing; and perform or coordinate personnel and vendors as necessary to conduct testing and monitoring required to demonstrate permit compliance
  • Assure secondary processes and mining activities are conducted in accordance with internal and external requirements
  • Compile/track monitoring data and develop record keeping formats and procedures to demonstrate environmental compliance, help maintain compliance records and documents, and submit required reports and documents to various regulatory agencies within the required time limits
  • Identify and prioritize potential environmental risks and develop appropriate control and/or abatement mechanisms
  • Coordinate environmental emergency response actions as needed to minimize impacts to the community and the environment and to insure remediation efforts meet and exceed regulatory standards
  • Advance the development of a comprehensive Environmental Management information System
  • Track environmental performance, conduct BMP meetings, prepare annual corporate reports, interact with other divisional environmental coordinators
  • This position requires supervision and cost tracking of environmental consultants, vendors, and possible student intern.
  • Other duties as assigned per supervisor

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in environmental compliance/management position
  • Working knowledge of state and federal permitting requirements as they relate to mining, water, and air quality
  • Requires knowledge of environmental sampling and monitoring procedures to include soil and groundwater sampling, solid and hazardous waste sampling, particulate air sampling and other methods as applicable
  • Requires knowledge of design and conduction of environmental response and remediation activities
  • Must pass pre-employment controlled substance testing and criminal background check before being employed by P J Keating

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering/Sciences or related field of study

Preferences

  • MSHA Certifications and Drone Pilot License is desirable
  • Prior experience in the construction and mining industry is desirable
  • Experience in teaching environmental principles and practices to employees of varied backgrounds
  • CAD or other type of GIS Mapping knowledge and experience
